COUNCIL OF EUROPE TRAIN 182 TEACHERS, PUPILS AND PSYCHOLOGISTS
ON PROTECTION OF CHILDREN FROM ABUSE
Tirana, May 2008
- During the period March - April 2008, CRCA / DCI Albania in
partnership with the Educational Authority of Tirana (DART) and
Council of Europe organised eight training courses for teachers,
pupils and psychologists of all primary and secondary schools
of Tirana. Four training courses were organised on the issue of
child abuse and maltreatment, while four others on the Convention
of the rights of the child.

IN ALBANIA RESPONDS TO THE CATASTROPHE OF BLASTS NEAR TIRANA
Tirana 17 March 2008
- After the explosions and the following catastrophe near the
capital of Albania, Tirana, which has affected more than 4000
persons and so far has caused the injury to of more than 300 people
and the death of 16 people in the village Gerdec, representatives
of civil society in Albania have responded to the crises by agreeing
a set of measures that will take immediate effect.

CONSULTATION ON CHILDREN WITH GENETIC DISEASE DEBATES SITUATION
ON SOUTH- EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

2007 - CRCA / DCI Albania announced today that the Regional Consultation
on Children with Genetic Diseases in South Eastern Europe was
closed successfully with participants asking politicians in the
region to work more to guarantee the right to life for children.
The event was funded and supported from the Open Society Foundation,
East-East Programme, in Albania.

CRCA / DCI Albania, one of the major civil society organisations
in Albania and the region of South Eastern Europe working to improve
the situation of childrens and youth rights through lobby
and advocacy, capacity building, policy and legislation formulation,
announced today a new initiative related to children with genetic
diseases.

STARTS THE FIRST TIRANA CHILD RIGHTS ACADEMY
Tirana, 10 December
2007 - The Children's Human Rights Centre of Albania / Defence
for Children International Albania, on the occasion of the International
Human Rights Day, opened officially today the first Tirana Child
Rights Academy. The Academy which will continue during five-day
period aims to strengthen the capacities of public officials and
civil society representatives for the protection of children's
rights in Albania.

OPERATORS SIGN CODE OF CONDUCT AGAINST CHILD SEX TOURISM
Tirana 19 November
2007 - Today 22 tour and hotel operators in Albania signed the
Code of Conduct for Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation.
The signing ceremony was organised as a joint event of the OSCE
presence in Albania with the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of
Interior and the tour operators in the country.

OF EUROPE COMMISSIONER HAMMARBERG TO ASSESS HUMAN RIGHTS SITUATION
Tirana, 29.10.2007
- The Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights, Thomas
Hammarberg, paid a five-day high-level official visit to Albania
to assess the overall human rights situation in the country. Mr
Hammarbergs agenda focused on a broad range of issues including
the functioning of the judiciary, conditions of detention, torture
and ill-treatment, trafficking in human beings, gender equality,
Roma and minority rights as well as social and economic rights.

COMMITMENT TO CHILD ONLINE SAFETY AT THE IGF IN RIO
Representatives from
leading Child Protection organisations meeting at the Internet
Governance Forum (IGF) in Rio today welcomed the commitment expressed
by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon at the inaugural session
of the second IGF, for a strong focus on child protection online
at the Forum.
