- CRCA HOSTS SUCCESSFULLY THE EUROPEAN TRAINING PROGRAMME ON TRAFFICKING IN CHILDREN

Tirana 21 March 2005 - The Children's Human Rights Centre of Albania - CRCA hosted successfully the first meeting of the European Training Programme on Trafficking in Children, which was organised by ECPAT Netherlands in Albania between 18-19 March 2005, with the participation of more then 30 NGO representatives from Western and Eastern European countries. The Training Programme, which first meeting took place in Tirana and Durres, aims to strengthen the capacities of Governments and NGO's in Western and Eastern European countries on child trafficking issue. The programme is financially supported by the European Commission’s AGIS program, the Oak Foundation and the Body shop Foundation.

The first day of the meeting was hosted in the premises of the City Hall of the Municipality of Tirana, situated in the heart of Tirana, was focused in the presentation of the aims and objectives of the Trafficking 3 project of ECPAT Netherlands, expectations of participants from the training manual, organisation of training courses in each Eastern European country etc. The second day of the meeting hosted in Durres, focused more on details of the training courses, quality of participants, institutions and organisations they represent, role of twining partners in Western Europe, testing and production of training manuals etc.

The Project's objective is to enhance knowledge, awareness and expertise and to improve the operational skills of various stakeholders in order to protect children from trafficking for sexual purposes in Western and Eastern Europe, to recognise child victims of trafficking, to address their specific needs on a child rights basis and to improve prosecution of traffickers. Partly based on already existing good practices, a training manual and programme will be developed (in English, Russian and various other local languages) on the (inter)national legal context of the problem of trafficking in children for sexual purposes and it's implementation in law enforcement, child protection and care at national and local level. The manual and training will be used by different stakeholders who have a role and responsibility in combating the trafficking of children.

- CISP AND CRCA ORGANISE JOINT SENSITISATION CAMPAIGN ON CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

Tirana 21 March 2005 - The Children's Human Rights Centre of Albania (CRCA) and CISP (Comitato Internazionale per lo Svilupo dei Popoli) a major Italian organisation present in Albania, have joint forces together to sensitize children and families in Albania on the issue of integration of disable children in schools and society.

CISP has been working for many years in some of the poorest areas in Albania for the disable children, such as Kruja, Fushe-Kruja and Lac. Meanwhile CRCA, as the major child rights organisation in the country, has a large experience in the organisation of public and sensitising campaigns for and to children.

The aim of the campaign is to sensitise the public opinion, children and the Albanian Government on the situation of disable children in Albania and the need of appropriate measures to assist their integration in public schools and society. Very few disable children are integrated and could attend formal school together with other non-disable children. Few facilities have been made available, although a national strategy asks for facilities to be build.

During a 15-day campaign both CISP and CRCA aim to sensitize more than 6000 children and families on the rights of disable children. At the end of the campaign the organisations have planned to send an open letter to the President and Prime-minister of Albania, with messages of disable children, who have attended the activities of the campaign.
