Tirana 11 April 2005 - NGO's in Albania started yesterday their preparations for the Action Week "Educate to End Poverty", as part of the preparations of the campaign that take place globally between 24-30 April. The activities in Albania are leaded by the Children's Human Rights Centre of Albania - CRCA, the major child rights organisation in the country. Compare to other years, this year the campaign has raised interest of many other child rights organisation in the country.

In a coordination meeting held yesterday by CRCA, and attended by some of the largest NGO's working in Albania for children, the Director of CRCA stated "If we compare this year campaign with the previous years, I see that the interest to come together and organise joint activities under the same slogan, has increased. This shows once more how much we all evaluate education as an important aspect to eradicate poverty and give young people a chance to contribute to themselves and to Albania."

The meeting which was attended by representatives of CRCA, IRCCRA, World Vision, International Social Services and Albanian Children's Alliance, agreed for a joint list of activities that will take during the Action week. Among the major activities to take place will be:

1. Mailing materials (leaflet, posters) to Schools, teachers and children in Albania.

2. Mailing materials (leaflet, posters) to NGO's and Government in Albania.

3. Preparation of Statement "Educate to End Poverty" and issue to a press conference.

4. Event "Send a Friend to School" .

5. Open LETTER send to 140 MP's of the Albanian Parliament "GET BACK TO SCHOOL", where all the parliamentarians will be asked to get back to any school which is in their constituency and report to the media on what they have achieved during that day.

6. SEND MY FRIEND TO THE PRESIDENT.

7. Preparation and Publication of POSTER in national language (Albanian). The poster will be published in 2000 copies and costs of the publication will be shared among all partners.

- WORLD BANK ALBANIA ESSAY COMPETITION "WHY SHOULD I STAY IN ALBANIA"

The World Bank Office in Tirana invites you to participate in an Essay Competition by responding to the two following questions:
1- What are the biggest challenges that you face in your daily life?
2- What ideas, solution would you propose to build a future for yourself in Albania?

“Why I should stay in Albania”



Albanians encounter many challenges in seeking to build a future for themselves and for their country. To learn what these challenges mean to you, to understand how you deal with them and to enlist your ideas in finding solutions utilizing the opportunities for Albania, the World Bank Office in Tirana invites you to participate in an Essay Competition.

* Participants must be below 25 years of age.
* The deadline for submission is 30 May 2005
* Each participant can only submit one essay
* Essay should not be longer than 6 pages
* Essays can be submitted in English or Albanian
* Each essay must be accompanied by an abstract (max. one page). The abstract will be used by the jury to make a pre-selection
* Finalists will be announced 15 June 2005

International Conference National Youth Policies - Success or Failure in South Eastern Europe?

Call for applicants: participants and workshop leaders

The Regional Youth Center for Information and Documentation in South East Europe - RYCID
with the support of Council of Europe present the international conference National Youth Policies - Success or Failure in South Eastern Europe?; dedicated to all you Youth activists that want to improve the process of designing and implementing National Youth Policies across South Eastern Europe.
The conference is meant to be the perfect framework to achieve this by analysing, evaluating and generating solutions for the present situation (from both NGOs, governmental organisations and international experts point of view).

The taskforce that developed the concept of the conference, its content and programme includes experts in the NYP field at national and regional level, but also experts actively involved in the policy making at European level. They will present the participants with analysis and evaluations regarding all the phases of the designing and implementing National Youth Policies process (consultations, designing and implementation).
All costs with visa, travel, accommodation & meals are covered by the organisers

And workshop leaders with:
- Very good English skills (speaking & writing);
- Available to arrive in Timisoara on the 21st of May and stay till the 29th of May;
- With a certain experience in moderating international groups;
- Summarising & debriefing skills;
- Creative, energetic, proactive, flexible, positive.

World Day Against Child Abuse: NGO Coalition <Call for Applications>

Application deadline: 1 June 2005

The Women's World Summit Foundation (WWSF) is happy to announce that more than 480 organisations from over 90 countries joined the international coalition and marked the World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse, on 19 November in 2004 with activities and events. The list of coalition organisations is published at http://www.woman.ch and a global impact report 2004 is in preparation.

The main purpose of the NGO Coalition is to contribute to the creation of a culture of prevention of child abuse and form a global partnership network to raise awareness, mobilise public opinion and action, and disseminate prevention programmes. To join the Coalition, members commit to mark the Day with local and national events and activities; mention the Day in their publications and on their websites; distribute posters, educational programmes and information; create partnerships with local organisations working for the promotion and protection of the rights of the child, alert the press and radio stations, inform local authorities of the existence of the Day and planned activities, and lobby governments for official proclamation of the Day as a National Day.

Organisations that wish to join the 2005 coalition to mark the World Day (or those wishing to renew their membership) should visit the WWSF website at http://www.woman.ch/children/1-register.asp . Organisations' names will then be printed on the global poster 2005 and published on the Internet.
