The training, which is funded by Soros Foundation in Albania, is part of the CRCA Juvenile Justice Programme. The training, which is developed under the title "Promoting Children's Rights in Prisons", aims to improve the knowledge among police officers and educators on children's rights and improve the treatment of juveniles in Albanian prisons. Currently there are 15 male juveniles serving their sentence in the Prison of Vaqar and recently their living conditions have improved. However the police behavior and communication towards the juveniles is not up to the required international standards. The two-day training is organised in close partnership with the General Directorate of Prisons, and is held at the Training School of Prisons, which is a new institution established within the Directorate and located inside the Prison of Vaqar with the aim to train the police and education staff of prisons from all over Albania. A team of experts from CRCA Training Team, have developed a tailored methodology for the needs of the prison staff, based on a combination of formal training and on-job training. During the first day the participants will be trained on Convention on the Rights of the Child and juvenile justice issues, while the second day of the training is based on role-plays and real-life situations. For the first time, in the training have been invited to participate two juveniles that serve their term in Vaqar. Both juveniles will be part of the training from the first day and the aim is to bring the police, education staff and juveniles closer to the problems they face, and try to improve the communication skills of cooperation among all. CRCA works in Prison of Vaqar together with UISP-Peace Games since September 2004 providing socio-legal assistance, education and sports activities for juveniles and young people in Prison of Vaqar and women Prison 325.
